Script Doctor

I am a professional script consultant ... 'script doctor,' in the industry vernacular. With over twenty years' experience reading and critiquing and editing screenplays, I've developed strong instincts about what does and doesn't work, and the skills to reshape a script - however weak or strong it may be - into something better, richer and more suited to its audience than it was.

Whether you're a writer or a producer or other industry professional with a script needing work, it's never easy to hear what's wrong with a project. But when I analyse your script, I don't just tear it down - pointing out its flaws, and basically making you feel lousy. Instead, I accompany every criticism with specific suggestions about how to resolve the issue, while at the same time making a point of finding the strengths in the project, showing you how to make the most of its best potential.

Script analysis is a continuum, and I regularly work from one end (simple edits and tweaks of a strong script) to the other (a complete page 1 rewrite), depending on the nature of the project and the needs of the producers or writers. A preliminary analysis usually takes the form of a 3-5 page overview of the project's strengths and weaknesses, with recommendations for how best to proceed. Often, this is all the writer needs to dive back in to a new draft. Other times, I'm engaged to make the changes myself. But in either case, my goal is the same: to make the script the best screenplay ... the best story ... it can be.
